DASH 039 - You Are My SONshine

PSALM 84:1-2 (NIV)

The Bible Says... “How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”

Just A Dash

I haven’t been myself the past few days. I took off work Thursday and Friday thinking I just needed some rest. After a pretty uneventful weekend, I woke up this morning in a fog, still feeling out of sorts. Something was off, and I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

I thought back over the past couple of weeks, and how I had been feeling isolated, even crowded rooms. I didn’t want to be alone, but I just didn’t have the energy or the desire to be around others. You know that sense of relief you get when someone cancels on you for an event or meet-up that you really didn’t feel like going to anymore? Yeah, I’ve been feeling that a lot lately.

This morning, I stepped outside to take a phone call, and found it to be unusually cool for 10AM on a summer morning in Dallas. As I stood outside, I noticed it gradually warmer, and after only about 5 minutes in the sun, I felt so alive and refreshed!

I thought, “Wow, it’s amazing the difference a little sun exposure can make” and then it hit me. The reason I haven’t been feeling myself, the reason I had been overwhelmed, anxious, and out of sorts, is because I hadn’t had any exposure to the SON.

While I was running on fumes trying to stay on top of everything life was throwing at me, my soul had been yearning to be in God’s presence. Standing outside in the open field behind my office gave me a few moments of quiet in the presence of God, which is exactly what I had been missing.

A Pinch More

Studies have shown the benefits of sun exposure on our physical bodies, but it’s no secret that Son exposure is vital to our spiritual health as well. Life comes at you fast, but that’s no excuse to not take some precious moments to stand in the presence of God.

Take a moment today to stand in God’s presence for a while and allow Him to refresh your spirit.
